I started United Intelligence because I believe technology consultancy should be practical, honest and genuinely useful - not a vehicle for selling more consultancy.
Over the past 25 years, I've worked at the intersection of technology strategy and delivery, helping large, complex organisations navigate the reality of digital transformation. Most of my career has been spent in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction sector - including eight years as Global IT Director for Enterprise Architecture at WSP, a 66,000-person engineering consultancy, and nearly a decade leading IT strategy and architecture at Atkins. That gives me a deep understanding of how technology needs to work in project-driven, globally distributed businesses.
Through those roles, I've led global architecture teams, directed multi-million-pound technology budgets, overseen major platform transformations, and worked hand-in-hand with C-suite stakeholders to align technology investment with business priorities. I've designed product-based operating models, established enterprise architecture functions from scratch, built capability-led roadmaps, and delivered initiatives that generated measurable productivity gains and cost savings.
But the thing I'm most proud of isn't any single programme or initiative. It's the approach I've developed along the way. I've seen enough transformation programmes to know that the ones which succeed aren't the ones with the most sophisticated methodology - they're the ones where someone has taken the time to understand the organisation's real needs and shaped the approach accordingly. That pragmatism is at the heart of everything United Intelligence does.
I'm not tied to any particular vendor, methodology or framework. I use whatever works best for the situation in front of me. And I'm equally comfortable presenting to a board of directors as I am rolling up my sleeves in a programme office - because lasting change needs both strategic clarity and hands-on delivery.
Outside of work, I'm a Director of Arundel Community Land Trust, where I apply my governance and strategy skills to help deliver permanently affordable housing in my local community. It's a reminder that the skills we use in technology leadership - building consensus, managing complexity, keeping things moving - have value far beyond IT.
